Freehold Money
Between  1804 and 1865,  paper money was issued by many  New Jersey banks, in what we refer to today as "obsolete bank notes" or "broken banknotes."  In 1866, the Federal Government imposed a 10% tax on such notes, effectively ending this period of numismatic history.
