Greetings from Freehold and welcome to the 2009 Halloween Spooktacular, hosted by the all volunteer Western Monmouth County Spooktacular Committee!

Again this year we will be enjoying the Halloween murals painted on retail storefront windows throughout downtown Freehold. Artistic students from each of the six high schools in the Freehold Regional School district compete for honors in this long standing Borough tradition that is not to be missed. Bring your family and your camera and take a leisurely stroll to see the award winning windows. We're sure you will love it !

Scheduled on Saturday October 17th from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. are the very popular Scarecrow Contest, previously featured on CNN, and Spooktacular Haunted Hayride. Use your imagination to create a full sized scarecrow for display throughout the hayride route to compete for prizes and a year's worth of scarecrow bragging rights! As in years past, the hayride will slowly wind through the streets of Freehold while live "Haunters," full sized scarecrows, and other Halloween surprises make for an unforgettable Halloween experience. Haunters wanted, if you want to be a haunter, we'll find a spot for you - you don't have to be a homeowner on the route to participate.

The Jack-O_Lantern Contest will be held on Saturday, October 24, 6:30 pm to 8:30 p.m. Bring your gorgeous carved pumpkin and a candle to the Hall of Records, Main Street, Freehold. Pumpkins are judged in various categories: best overall for age groups 5 and under, 6-9, 10-13, 14-17, and 18 and over. You can also try to "guess the weight of the pumpkin" and win $50.00. Live entertainment will be provided for your enjoyment and numerous prizes will be given out to entrants.

Culminating this year's Spooktacular events will be the Spooktacular Halloween Parade on Sunday October 25, scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. This will immediately follow the 12:00 noon costume judging at the Freehold Raceway parking lot. Considered one of the best Halloween parades in the area, the parade will feature hundreds of costumed children, lots and lots of high school and professional bands, floats, and other marchers. Prizes will be awarded in a variety of age groups, from infants to teens, and there is also a special family category. Prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the parade at a ceremony conducted on the steps of the Hall of Records, at approximately 3:00 p.m.
